Welcome to Imaginiste!

I love stories, don't you?

I love myths with their gods and goddesses, and novels with their heroes and heroines.

And I love biographies with their icons and renegades, and histories with their kings and queens.

And I love animals, both mythological and as real as the little dog at my feet....

So I've painted the protagonists of many of my favorites stories and I've made them into bookmarks and cards. The bookmarks peek over the tops of books, and the cards are kits to make dancing paper figures.

I'm an academic by training, with several degrees in French and English literature, including an M. Phil. from the Sorbonne and a Ph.D. from Yale; I've also edited anthologies on Shakespeare and Jane Austen with the Random House group.

I'm an artist by evolution, and while my watercolor paper goods can be found here, my original oil paintings can be found at SusannahCarson.com. My work has been shown by Bergdorf Goodman, Anthropologie, Artfully Walls, and Goop; and my studio was recently featured in an article in the magazine Where Women Create.

Here I am in the photo with my miniature shih-tzu, Agatha. One or both of us have lived in Paris, Lyon, London, Cambridge, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the tiny village of Hockwold-cum-Wilton. We currently live with my husband and his two dogs in the hills above the wine country town of Saint Helena, California.
